Why “They’ll Grow Out of It” Can Be Risky in Elementary School
While some challenges naturally resolve with maturity, academic struggles often do not simply disappear without support, especially during the elementary years when foundational skills are being built. Small gaps in understanding can quietly widen as new concepts are introduced, causing students to feel increasingly confused, frustrated, or disengaged. Children may begin to doubt their abilities or avoid challenging tasks, even though they are capable learners. Early intervention helps strengthen these foundational skills before frustration takes hold, protecting a child’s confidence and preventing larger difficulties later on. Providing support sooner rather than later allows students to feel capable, supported, and successful as expectations continue to rise.
