Leading with Purpose, Teaching Through Connection

Xavier Ellsworth is an educator dedicated to building student-centered learning environments where every child feels seen, supported, and challenged to succeed. He grew up in Washington, DC, where his commitment to service began early—first as a volunteer EMT and later through a year of service with City Year. During that year, working in a Southeast DC public school, he witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education and the impact one caring adult can have on a child’s life. That experience solidified his decision to dedicate his career to working with students.

After completing his service year, Xavier earned an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Dean College before transferring to Manhattanville University, where he majored in Elementary Education and Creative Writing. As a member of the track and field team, he developed discipline, resilience, and leadership—qualities that continue to shape his work as an educator. Since graduating in 2020, he has taught third grade at Icahn Charter School in the Bronx.

Xavier’s teaching philosophy is grounded in a simple belief: effort leads to growth, and relationships make it last. He has seen how consistent effort can unlock student potential, but he also understands that meaningful achievement is built through trust and connection. By recognizing that every child learns differently, he prioritizes strong relationships that honor students’ identities and support their individual learning needs.

Beyond the classroom, Xavier leads a basketball club, supports students through Saturday Academy, and runs Xavier Ellsworth Tutoring Services, where he works with K–6 students in math, reading, writing, and study skills. He also coaches basketball in other school communities, using athletics as a tool to teach teamwork, perseverance, and confidence. He views academics and athletics as deeply interconnected, both requiring focus, dedication, and belief in the value of effort.

During the summer, Xavier continues his work with youth at Home Run Baseball Camp, a community he has been part of since middle school. What began as a camper experience evolved into years of leadership, and in 2024, he returned to the program as Camp Director in DC.

Currently, Xavier is pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Manhattanville University as he prepares for the next stage of his career as a school leader. He lives in White Plains, New York, with his wife and their newborn son, Brayden. Becoming a father has further strengthened his commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

At the core of Xavier’s work is a guiding belief: when effort begins and connection is built, achievement will always follow.
